This Art Collection features selections from the Zimmerli's exhibits of Old Master paintings and a more extensive presentation of its nineteenth-century French holdings that focus on the museum's strength in portraits and caricatures, graphic arts, Japonisme, and works related to the popular culture of fin-de-siècle Paris.

Among the Zimmerli Art Museum’s treasures is a group of more than two hundred photographs taken by European and Japanese photographers during the Meiji period (1868-1912), which is considered the beginning of the modern era in Japan.

Edwards was the first African-American artist to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1970. In 1988, New York Times critic Michael Brenson lauded Edwards as “one of the best American sculptors… [and] one of the least known.” This exhibition is the first retrospective of the artist’s career in more than twenty years.
