This Art Collection features selections from the Zimmerli's exhibits of Old Master paintings and a more extensive presentation of its nineteenth-century French holdings that focus on the museum's strength in portraits and caricatures, graphic arts, Japonisme, and works related to the popular culture of fin-de-siècle Paris.

Meiji Photographs: A Historic Friendship between Japan and Rutgers

Rutgers University and Japan, especially the city of Fukui, have enjoyed a special relationship for more than two hundred years. Among the Zimmerli Art Museum’s treasures is a group of more than two hundred photographs taken by European and Japanese photographers during the Meiji period (1868-1912), which is considered the beginning of the modern era in Japan.


Through the Looking Glass: Hyperrealism in the Soviet Union

The first thematic exhibition at the Zimmerli Art Museum which charts the development of hyperrealism and photorealism in the Soviet Union during the late 1970s and 1980s.

Melvin Edwards: Five Decades

When: September 01, 2015 – January 10, 2016

Edwards was the first African-American artist to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1970. In 1988, New York Times critic Michael Brenson lauded Edwards as “one of the best American sculptors… [and] one of the least known.” This exhibition is the first retrospective of the artist’s career in more than twenty years.

The Color Run Shine @ Raceway Park
